Doornenburg Castle

Doornenburg Castle is an 11th century medieval castle, located in the small Dutch village of Doornenburg. It is one of the oldest castles in the Netherlands and its grounds are open to visitors for exploring and admiring. The fortification consists of an almost entirely intact castle, surrounded by a large moat. Within the castle grounds, visitors can find a carp pond and two water-filled moats. The castle is home to the Veerse Family Museum and it is a popular spot for visitors hoping to learn more about the history of the area. Inside the castle walls, there are several buildings such as a 27-meter high keep, storehouse and a brewery. While visiting Doornenburg, visitors can explore its many small lanes, bridges, and streets, as well as its historic monuments such as the Weespertoren, a tower that has stood guard since the 14th century.
