Stockholm's City Hall, originally opened in 1923, is an impressive landmark located on the waterfront of Lake Mälaren in the Kungsholmen district. Highly detailed facades in National Romantic style and three grand towers soaring above the city make for an impressive sight. The main hall, also known as the Blue Hall, is decorated with over 18 million pieces of mosaic creating a stunningly intricate effect. A remarkable piece of sculpture located in the stair hall is a depiction of legendary Swedish king Gustav Vasa, welcoming incoming visitors. City Hall is a popular tourist destination and the final destination of Stockholm's yearly Nobel prize banquet, an exclusive event that has been held here since 1932.
