Checkerboard Mesa

Checkerboard Mesa, located in Orderville, Utah, is a spectacular southwest destination. Located in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, the virtual checkerboard of red sandstone rocks was created over time by erosion. From the bottom of the desert floor, take a short but steep hike up the mesa for a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. After the hike, take a drive to the top of the mesa to get the perfect sunset or sunrise shot of the area. Make sure to bring a long lens for close-up captures and a wide angle for landscapes.
