
Château Comtal is the most famous of the 52 towers found within the fortified city walls of Carcassonne in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. It was built in the 12th century, and stands at almost 50 meters high. It is an impressive monument full of history, with the original castle walls and towers still intact. Its walls enclose winding streets and cobbled squares, providing an atmospheric look into the past. The castle is open to visitors, and contains a number of exhibits that explain the history of the castle and its place in the region. From the top of the tower, you can look out over the city, as well as the surrounding countryside. It offers a great view and is definitely worth a visit.
