Cattedrale di Saint Lazare

The Cattedrale di Saint Lazare in Autun, France, is one of the most impressive Roman monuments in France. A few hundred meters from the city center, this 11th century cathedral was one of the largest in Burgundy. Elevated on a hilltop, the cathedral commands sweeping views of the surrounding valley and is surrounded by a great square and cloisters featuring beautiful gardens and ancient monuments. Visitors will marvel at the intricate architecture, the tall bell tower and the many Romanesque sculptures adorning the facade. Inside, the cathedral is just as spectacular, with soaring ceilings, stunning mosaics, intricately carved capitals, and some of the earliest stained glass windows in Europe. The cathedral features a mix of both French and German architectural elements. Don't miss the crypt and the treasure chamber housing some priceless vestiges. Also, the garden features a memorial sculpture dedicated to Lafayette.
