Castelo de Tomar

Castelo de Tomar is a fortified convent in Tomar, Portugal. It is located on top of a hill, regarded as one of Portugal's most iconic monuments and monuments of the Knights Templar. It was built in 1160 during the Reconquista by the Knights Templar, but was later taken by King Afonso Henriques and given to the independent order of Portuguese Knights of the Templar. The interior of the castle has a quadrangular layout, centered around the round Temple Church, surrounded by a courtyard, castle walls and several wings built of sandstone. It is one of the most important Medieval monuments in Portugal, with its intricate stone carvings and beautiful gardens still worthy of admiration.
