Castelo de Marvão

Castelo de Marvão is a medieval castle situated in the village of Marvão in Portugal. Built in the 12th century, it is one of the best example of the Moorish defence architecture in the Iberian peninsula. The well-preserved walls and towers offer a spectacular view of the castle and the surrounding valley and mountains. The castle was the residence of the Portuguese royal family and served as a fortress. It has a moat, two gateways, and a small keep. Today, it is open to visitors and provides an insight into life in the medieval period. Visitors can explore the castle, take in the beautiful views, and enjoy hiking in the lush green nature area. Wine-tasting and local cuisine can also be enjoyed in the nearby village of Marvão.
