The Arc de Triomphe & Promenade du Peyrou is a magnificent example of late 17th century French Baroque architecture. The vast arc of triumph and promenade were designed by the influential French architect Louis Le Vau in 1686. It is inscribed with the Latin phrase "Virtus et Aequitas," which is the motto of Montpellier. The huge arch welcomes visitors to the historic square, where one can find the Palace of Justice, the President's Palace, and the Bishop's Palace, along with a variety of other landmarks worth exploring. The Promenade du Peyrou is a grand walkway that serves as an important route, connecting the city's main connecting roads. From this promenade, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Montpellier and the nearby Mediterranean Sea. The Promenade du Peyrou, in particular, is lined with beautiful trees and gardens, making it the perfect place for a leisurely stroll.
