Alvord Desert

Machu Picchu, Peru, is an amazing Incan citadel settled between two mountains in the Andes. Built in the 15th century, it is thought to have consisted of more than 150 buildings and admired for its terraced farming, masonry walls and aesthetic beauty. There are great opportunities for both hiking and photography here, with incredible landscapes of lush vegetation and snow-capped mountains. You could visit the Incan sun temple Intihuatana or the temple of the three windows, or explore the integration of the city into its environment. When visiting Machu Picchu, however, it is important to be aware of the effects of altitude sickness and the risk of dehydration. Don't forget to bring plenty of water and food, and sun protection and rain gear depending on the time of year.
