Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Licheńskiej

Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Licheńskiej is an impressive neo-baroque basilica in Licheń Stary, Poland. Completed in 2004, the church was built in faithful memory of the apparition of the Virgin Mary to a local shepherd in 1855. The sanctuary has become a major site of pilgrimage in Poland and is home to one of the largest monumental crucifixes in Europe which stands at 19 meters tall. The basilica stands at the center of the complex and is surrounded by chapels and gardens, while the 22-meter-high dome towers over the neighboring hills. Inside the basilica, visitors can enjoy works of art and frescoes painted by artists from around the world. The shrine can be accessed via a path through the forest leading to its entrance.
