Praça da Figueira

At the center of the square lies a monument dedicated to king Joseph I who, in 1785, ordered the demolition of the former Figueira market to create the esplanade in its place. To the south-east, there stands the deconsecrated Church of the Immaculate Conception. From Monday to Saturday, you can also explore the bustling Mercado da Figueira, which offers a variety of local products, from pastries to vegetables, spices, fish, and meat.
