The iconic Golden Gate in San Francisco, United States, is a critically important landmark of the city. It was named the top American structure by the American Institute of Architects. Under the bridge is the Golden Gate Strait, the 1 mile wide channel connecting the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The bridge itself is 1.7 miles long, making it one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. On a clear day you can enjoy spectacular views of the entire city and the beautiful Marin Headlands across the strait. The best way to experience the beauty of the bridge is to take a short trip on the bay, or walk the trails in the area. Be sure to take some time and take in all of the special sites - the Palace of Fine Arts, the Presidio, and Alcatraz.
