The Art Institute of Chicago is a renowned art museum located in the renowned city of Chicago, United States, most notably known for its iconic pair of bronze lions that guard the entrance. Since their conception, the two bronze lions have become a symbol of the museum and"The New Art" movement, which has come to be associated with the Art Institute as a whole. Originally sculpted in 1893 by Edward L. V. Buchtal, they were cast in bronze in 1895. The lions have been a symbol of strength and protection since they were first placed at the museum in 1895 and remain the museum's most recognizable icon today. Though small in size the lions still draw immense crowds. They are the perfect backdrop and source of inspiration for artistic endeavors and an important symbol of the visual and performing arts in Chicago and beyond.
