The Joods Monument in Utrecht, Netherlands, is a memorial monument created to commemorate the Jews in the second world war. It was designed by graphic designer and sculptor Maarten Struijs and unveiled on April 9, 1998. The monument consists of a series of black steel columns that symbolize the 18 synagogues that were destroyed in Utrecht during the war. A wall of illuminated glass sits at the rear of the monument and is engraved with the names of all 4,929 Utrecht Jews who lived and died during the Nazi occupation. The memorial is located in the city center and is an important part of the city's war remembrance culture.
