Tre Esedre and Villa Adriana are two of the most popular sites in Italy's town of Tivoli. Tre Esedre is a Renaissance-era mausoleum, built by Pope Paul III in 1538. It holds the tombs of three sadly deceased Papal princes who were all sons of Cardinal Carafa. Villa Adriana, also known as Hadrian's Villa, was built in the 2nd century for the Roman emperor Hadrian and is widely considered to be one of the most important archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. Both Tre Esedre and Villa Adriana are situated within idyllic landscaped gardens, and both the mausoleum and the villa have spectacular views of the Alps. The area is a perfect spot for an afternoon of exploring, wandering, and learning about Tivoli's grandiose history.
