The Peace Bridge

The Peace Bridge is a striking structure located along the River Foyle in the city of Derry and Strabane, United Kingdom. It opened in 2011 as a sign of goodwill between the unionist and nationalist communities of Northern Ireland, and is the only pedestrian bridge in the city. Standing at 25 meters tall the Peace Bridge has become one of Derry and Strabane’s most recognizable landmarks. The bridge is made of cantilevered steel and lit up in beautiful changing colors at night. There is a viewing area at the top of the bridge providing great views in both directions along the River Foyle. The bridge was designed by the award-winning architectural firm WilkinsonEyre and features a glass installation by Australian artist, Claire Curneen. There are plenty of places to enjoy a tranquil walk or sit and take in the views. A visit to The Peace Bridge is a great way to appreciate the history of the city and the spirit of peace and harmony it symbolizes.
