The Sheikh Hamdan Mosque, also known as the Grand Mosque, is a two-storey, white marble mosque located in the Al-Murr area of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The mosque is dedicated to the memory of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the late Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, who served as the symbol of the United Arab Emirates’ political and social development. The mosque is built on an area of 10,160 square meters, and is surrounded by a garden, with a central courtyard, and colorful flower beds. It has five copper-colored domes on the roof, with a high point of 39 meters. Inside, the mosque has a main prayer hall with a capacity of more than 4,000 people, and a main Mihrab decorated with pink marble, which have been make with local materials. The mosque is popular for religious and cultural ceremonies and for hosting VIPs from around the world. It also has an e-library, and a center for behavioral sciences and Islamic economics. Visitors must be respectful and keep noise levels to a minimum. Cameras and videos are allowed, as long as pictures are taken from outside the prayer hall.
