Shasta Dam spillway

The Shasta Dam spillway, located in California's Shasta Lake, is an impressive feat of engineering and an impressive sight to behold. Built in 1942, the dam creates a massive reservoir, measuring 500 feet deep, 4 miles in length, and 36 miles in circumference. The massive spillway, visible from the shoreline, runs the length of the dam and helps control water flow in and out of the reservoir. Visitors can take a short drive up to the top of the Spillway for a spectacular view of the lake and dam. There is an urban park with excellent picnicking opportunities and trails for exploring, as well as a accessible viewpoint at the dam’s O-B-L-I Bridge.
