Sandy Beach Ruins is a small ruin located between Sandy Beach and Auke Lake in the Alaskan town of Juneau. The ruins, originally built by the Tlingit people (the Indigenous population of Southeast Alaska), include petroglyphs from their culture, as well as traditional fortifications. Although the ruin has been occupied since the 1910s, it fell into disrepair and was abandoned in the 1940s. Now it serves as an interesting and unique spot to visit and explore. It’s a great place to explore and learn about the history of Southeast Alaska and the Tlingit people. There are several interesting artifacts and artwork to discover, as well as beautiful vistas of the lake and beach. The ruins are open to exploration and offer a unique window into the past of one of our nation’s most culturally significant regions.
