Montefalco is a picturesque, fortified medieval hilltop commune located in the province of Peruggia in central Umbria, Italy. Its unique position allows exceptional 360° views of the Umbria landscape and rolling hills of vineyards, olive groves and sunflower fields.
The main street, Via Goffredo Mameli, winds its way from the ancient church of San Francesco at the top of the hill down through the spectacular Porta Sant' Agostino, with its imposing ancient walls. The street is lined with a multitude of medieval palaces, churches, wine cellars and delightful hidden alleys and lanes. During the annual Sagra dell'Umbria, a celebration of local wines, cheese and salami, the whole area along Via Goffredo Mameli is decked out in bunting, flags and decorations and the street hums with activity of vendors, chefs, entertainers and music. A perfect time to observe the local culture and traditions in a festive atmosphere.
