La Clerecia

La Clerecía and Monumento al Maestro Salinas is a popular tourist attraction situated in the heart of the university city of Salamanca, Spain. The monument is dedicated to the Spanish composer and conductor, Antonio de Salinas and is found in the middle of the Plaza Mayor. La Clerecía itself is an 18th century neoclassical building located nearby the monument. The building was constructed as a seminary by Juan de Samaniego, who was a governor of Salamanca in 1722 and served as a school for local clergy until 1839. It is a wonderful example of architecture, featuring a vast central courtyard and six storeys of corridors and classrooms. The interior of La Clerecía contains a library and a museum, which contains old instruments, sculptures, paintings and several pieces of furniture. The building is a popular destination for tourists as it overlooks Salamanca's iconic monuments, such as the 15th century Cathedral of Salamanca and the Calle Mayor. La Clerecía and Monumento al Maestro Salinas is open to the public year-round and is an excellent spot for exploring the rich history and culture of Salamanca.
