Kinkaku, in Kyoto, Japan, is also known as the Golden Pavilion. Built in 1397, it is one of the most significant structures of Japanese architecture and is a designated National Special Historic Site and National Special Landscape. The structure is a large three-story pavilion covered in gold leaf and framed by a beautiful pond and gardens. The building is also surrounded by a tranquil Zen garden with carefully arranged stones, sand and trees. Despite its lavish exterior, the interior is relatively plain and houses several ancient relics, including Buddha statues and a sacred bell. Visitors can take their time to explore its grounds and appreciate the beautiful gardens and peaceful atmosphere.
