📍 Greece
The Horologion of Andronikos Kyrrhestes is an 11th-century Byzantine tower located in the southwest corner of the Agora in Athens, Greece. The tower was constructed as a monument to Andronikos Kyrrhestes, the first known clockmaker. The 30-meter-high cylindrical structure is 13 meters in diameter and is prominently visible from nearby Syntagma Square. It is made of brick and was designed to resemble a giant pendulum clock. On the exterior, its arched windows adorn ornate stone carvings of theatrical masks and grotesque figures attributed to the artist Mikon. The clocktower also houses a small chapel dedicated to Saint George. It was restored during the 19th century and remains a popular tourist attraction in Athens.
