The Girard Avenue Bridge is a distinct and iconic structure in the North Philadelphia section of the city of Philadelphia. Built in 1902 and designed by R.M. Steckel and Sons, the structure spans over Railroad spur of Amtrak and the Reading Railroad, connecting Howland Street below to the north and Thompson Street to the south. The bridge is composed of a Pratt through truss, and is famous for its intricate web of diagonal steel members, which holds up the vehicle roadway towards the top of the truss. The Girard Avenue Bridge's appearance has made it the subject of many photographs and art pieces, and it is the perfect subject for any photographer or tourist visiting the area.
