Galata Towers are a iconic landmark in the center of Istanbul, located in Beyoğlu. Built in 1348 and 339 ft tall, the original purpose of the tower was to serve as a watching tower to monitor ships coming in and out of the harbor during Byzantine times. In the 19th century it was later used as a fire-watch tower and a prison. It has been renovated several times over the centuries and still stands today, welcoming visitors to the city. It offers stunning views of the Golden Horn and is a great place to observe and experience the vibrant life of Istanbul. You can also find in the area some other monuments and attractions such as the Galata Whirling Dervish Hall and the Sulaymaniyah Mosque.
