Fountains

Fountains in Lyon, France are spectacular city landmarks. More than 500 ornate spouts have been set up around, in, and near the city center since Napoleon endorsed their addition in 1804. Visitors will find these fountains scattered around the city’s grandiose squares, winding alleys, and hidden courtyards. Most of the fountains were designed in the classical style, while other were built in the Gothic fashion, and the rest are baroque, rococo, and neo-classical. In the Place des Jacobins, at the top of Rue Mercière, is the imposing Baroque Grand'Rue Fountain. The Great Fountaine of St. Nizier is a Gothic landmark and is located in one of Lyons' oldest streets in the 2nd arrondissement.
