Colonna dell’Immacolata
📍 Italy
The Colonna dell' Immacolata is a majestic column in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. It was built in the early 19th century by architect Francesco Buttitta in honour of the Immaculate Conception. At the top of the column is a statue of the Virgin Mary with her hands outstretched in a form of blessing. It stands at 58-metres tall, making it a very imposing structure in the city's skyline. The spiral stairs that lead you to the top of the column are a highlight of any visit, offering stunning views of the surrounding area. The column is a popular attraction, with many people making the ascent to appreciate the views, take photos or to just admire the architecture. It's also a popular spot for the devout, many of whom make the pilgrimage up the stairs to pay homage to the titular figure.
