City Hall

City Hall serves as Philadelphia's primary governmental building, a symbol of the city, and a popular tourist attraction. The building has remained virtually unchanged since City Hall opened in 1901 and is the largest municipal building in the country. It stands 548 feet tall, with 548 steps leading up to the main entrance. Inside is an ornate lobby and 30 ft high, gilded bronze sculpture of William Penn. City Hall is a great destination for visitors looking for a bit of history as well as a great view of Philly from one of its many balconies, including the south tower observation deck which is open to the public.
