Beynac Castle

Beynac Castle is a 12th-century castle located along the Dordogne river, in the commune of Beynac-et-Cazenac in southwestern France. It is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved medieval castles in Europe. The castle is perched on top of a cliff about 100 meters above the Dordogne River, affording magnificent views of the river and the surrounding area. The château itself is comprised of multiple buildings from throughout its history, giving it a unique and varied profile. The entrance is an 11th-century keep, with walls up to 6 meters thick. Moving up the hill, visitors will pass a stone bridge and 16th-century Renaissance windows, and finally a chapel built in the 15th century. The castle is open to visitors during the summer months, with a few guided tours available. Be sure to bring a camera to capture the views and sights, or even explore the castle on your own!
