The Basilica of Santa Chiars in Assisi, Italy is one of the most iconic landmarks in the whole of Italy, and indeed one of the most beautiful churches in the world. The church was built in 1203, with the foundations having been laid by the old Roman walls of Asisium. Inside the basilica, visitors can witness La Porziuncola, Saint Francis' first chapel. This sight is particularly revered, as it was in this chapel that Saint Francis received his instructions from God, to start an order devoted to helping the poor. This stunning basilica is a cultural hot-spot and is a must-visit for any traveler to Assisi.
