The Russ Building

Set in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial District, The Russ Building is an iconic art deco masterpiece. Built in 1929, it was once a premier destination for shopping, dining and entertainment. The 14-story building is an example of the City Beautiful Movement, a popular design style at the turn of the century. Its ornate lobby and gilded-plaster walls and pillars, ornate marble flooring, ornate molded ceilings and large circular mural in its rotunda, are examples of its classy style. Visitors can also check out its top floor, which is open to the public, boasting sweeping 360-degree views of the skyline. The building also houses the now-closed Russ Museum of Modern Art, which boasted works of art from the 20th century. From its large arch windows and massive stone walls, The Russ Building is a prominent feature of the busy San Francisco downtown skyline.
