Kirkjufell Mountain is a stunning 1,512-foot-high peak located in Grundarfjörður on the Snaefellsnes peninsula in West Iceland. It is known as the “Church Mountain” because of its unique shape, and is one of the most iconic sites in Iceland’s landscape. Its picturesque location with the nearby waterfalls and lagoons added to its beauty. The mountain offers superb hiking trails up to the summit, and provides breathtaking views of the west and south coast of Iceland. The surrounding area is full of interesting geological formations, caves and even snow during winter. The nearby village of Grundarfjörður is also worth visiting for its small harbor, visitor center, cafes, souvenir shops and museums. The nearby Kirkjufellsfoss Falls along with a small beach are also worth a visit. Kirkjufell Mountain is a wonderful destination for photographers, hikers, and nature lovers alike.
