Vernal Falls lies in the Yosemite Valley in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of the United States. It is part of the Merced River and it is a large, distinct ribbon-shaped waterfall viewed from Happy Isles in central Yosemite Valley. The waterfall reaches a total height of 101 feet and gets its amazing coloring from the melted snow in the Sierra Nevada during the spring months. It is unique for its clumps of tall rainbow-like streaks which appear from afar. Views from below are breathtaking and can be reached via a steep trail from the Happy Isles Nature Center. The hike to the base of the falls is about two miles but is worth the effort for the stunning views of Nevada Fall and Liberty Cap.
