The Ġgantija Temples in Xagħra, Malta are some of the oldest religious sites in the world. Dating back to 3600 BC, they are believed to have been built by Neolithic inhabitants of Malta, thousands of years before the pyramids of Egypt. The site consists of two megalithic temples built side by side, nested within a single wall. The walls of the temples are made of huge stones, some of them even weighing several tonnes, that look like giants' work. The site offers spectacular views of the Maltese countryside and the neighboring island of Gozo. Being one of the oldest archaeological sites on the island, it is also a site of great importance to Malta's history and culture.
