The Washington State Capitol Building in Olympia is a landmark building and home of the state government since 1928. The building is a beautiful example of classical revivalism and was designed by New York architect William H. McGruer. The Capitol's impressive 180-foot dome is the one of the most iconic symbols of Washington State. The grounds of the Capitol are a great place to explore and make a great picnic spot with plenty of benches, lawns, gardens and trees. Climb the stairs to the roof and experience unbeatable views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains its surroundings. Inside, the Capitol houses a number of galleries, meeting rooms and the Legislative chambers. Guided tours of the building are available year round.
