📍 Iz Fort de Roovere, Netherlands
Mozesbrug and Fort de Roovere are two unique historical sites located in the distant Dutch village of Halsteren. Dating back to the 17th century, the entrance bridge to this fortress was named after the biblical prophet Moses, hence its name Mozesbrug. A part of its thatched roof still remains, making it an open-air museum. The drawbridge and moat around the bridge provide an enchanting atmosphere.

Fort de Roovere, built in the 16th century, is a unique circular fort connected to Mozesbrug by a moat. It is one of the few preserved circular fortifications in northern Europe and it is surrounded by a moat that is filled with water. Inside, you will find a chapel and a playroom. The fort has been restored and inhabited since 2013 after being abandoned for a century. As you wander around, you will not be able to stop yourself from taking pictures of this classic Dutch countryside. Visit these two historical sites to learn more about the rich history of Halsteren.
