Hondarribia

Hondarribia is a small fishing town located on the Bay of Biscay in Basque Country, Spain. Its old town is a must-see with its beautiful cobblestone streets, churches, and colorful buildings. The old defensive walls, which overlook the town, can be traversed by foot. In the center of town, the picturesque Plaza de Armas was the epicenter of old Basque society, full of Basque culture and crafts. The church of San Pedro is the best example of Basque Gothic architecture in the town, and inside you can marvel at the beautiful murals. A popular activity while in the town is to take a boat ride along the 5 km (3 mi) river estuary with its impressive waterfowl habitats, mangroves, and migratory birds. The views from the sea walls are stunning, especially of the old fishing neighborhoods. Don't forget to try the local delicacy 'Txitxardinas', mussels served in garlic and tomato sauce. Hondarribia is a charming town and a great spot for a day trip!
