Grand Hotel's Ceiling

The Grand Hotel's Ceiling in Dazhi, Taiwan, is an iconic sight that has come to represent the country’s grand heritage and its culture. Designed by architect Huang Yongyu, the ceiling is a giant concrete arch that spans a whopping 65 metres long, 31 metres wide and 8 metres tall. A monument to Taiwan’s history, this masterpiece of engineering and art reflects the incredible scale of Chinese architecture and its beauty. One of its many wonders is that it is composed entirely of pointed, star-shaped pieces of ornamental glass, which delicately catch the light and cast an entrancing twinkle throughout the hall. One of the only things of its kind in the world, it is a marvel to behold and offers visitors a glimpse into a grandeur that predates modernity.
