Glen Canyon Dam, in Page, United States, is a concrete arch-gravity dam located on the border of Arizona and Utah. It is a part of the Colorado River Storage Project, which was created to provide water for nine western states. The dam was completed in 1963, at a cost of $80 million, and has a height of 583 feet (117 meters) and a length of 1,560 feet (475 meters). The lake at Glen Canyon, commonly called Lake Powell, is one of the largest manmade reservoirs in the US. You can explore the canyon or take a guided tour of the dam - which is open to the public year round. It’s also possible to take excursions up and downstream on the Colorado River. You can even camp near the dam or take a 4WD ride over the dramatic escarpment. Additionally, the surrounding area is great for hiking, recreational activities such as boating, and of course, exploring. There’s also a visitor center worth visiting for a look at Native American artifacts.
