Catedral de Santander

The Catedral de Santander and adjacent Plaza Asunción offer an impressive piece of Spain’s history in one place. Built in the late 18th century, the cathedral is constructed of red brick in a Baroque style, visible in the two tall towers and cloisters of the structure. The interior features a mix of Gothic, neoclassical and Baroque decor. Just across from the cathedral is the Plaza Asunción, a pleasant and open square flanked by the Church of Conception and the Royal Palace of Pedrosa. As one of the cultural centers of the city and home to a variety of monuments, festivals, parades and other events, the plaza is a lively place to be.
