Buttermarkt

The Buttermarkt and Wasserfall Saarburg make up the historical old town of Saarburg, Germany. Situated on a hill above the Saar river, the town's old cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses make it a beautiful spot to visit. It is especially scenic when the narrow alleyways are alive with vibrant plants and colorful window boxes.

Buttermarkt is the old market place of Saarburg and the center of the town. For centuries, it was the site of the weekly farmers market, when the locals sold their farm products. Now, the traditional market place has been turned into a small public square with a fountain, a bandstand, and several restaurants and cafes. The Wasserfall Saarburg refers to the magnificent waterfall located on the southern edge of the town, where it drains into the Saar river. The waterfall is surrounded by many hiking paths, making it a popular spot for an afternoon stroll. It is best seen in the summer months, when the water is fast-flowing and the sun reflects off the surface of the river. However, in any season, it is an impressive sight.
