📍 Portugal
Aqueduto das Águas Livres is an impressive aqueduct located in Lisbon, Portugal. Built in the 18th century, it is one of the longest and most spectacular in the world, spanning over 20 kilometers (12 miles). It is well-known for its imposing, elegant arcades and the impressive 27 arches that make up the structure. The aqueduct draws its name from the crystal-clear water it carries along its vast length. It is a great example of early modern engineering and is listed as a national monument. The best way to appreciate and explore the structure is to take a walk along its path; visitors can take the picturesque train line (Linha da Lousã) and get off at the Puente de Alhandra station. Visitors can then follow the path upstream as far as Enxara do Bispo and there are plenty of scenic stops for unforgettable views or an afternoon picnic.
