Castles of Bellinzona

The Castles of Bellinzona are an UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Swiss city of Bellinzona. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries, the castles are a complex of 3 fortifications built by royal families to control the trade routes between north and south of the Alps. Today, the castles are open for visitors to explore the courtyards, museums and secret passageways, all with a spectacular view of the city and the Alps. The Old Castle Wall, a left-over from the 15th century walled city, is also part of the Castles of Bellinzona. Wander along this wall to get a feel for the past and see a different side to Bellinzona's modern centre. Get a bird's eye view over the city and observe the fortified houses and churches built from 16th to 18th century. The truly historic atmosphere that these monuments exude, makes it a great place to visit.
