Castel dell'Ovo

Castel dell'Ovo is one of Naples most iconic monuments. It is situated on the small island of Megaride in the Bay of Naples, just off the mainland of the city. Built in the 1st century BC and reconstructed numerous times, The Castle's original architecture is a mix of medieval, Spanish, and Arab designs. Visitors can explore the ramparts of this castle and the archaeological collection, which includes finds from the 6th century BC. The castle also houses a chapel, built in the 13th century and containing a crypt. Inside the castle lies the mysterious egg, a legendary talisman that was said be have magical, protective powers. Castel dell'Ovo has been through numerous restorations and still stands today as one of the most impressive sites in all of Naples.
