Black Butte

Black Butte is a 2,802-foot (854 m) volcanic cinder cone near Camp Sherman in central Oregon in the United States. It is part of the larger Newberry Volcanic National Monument and is a popular spot for hiking and sightseeing. On clear days, the cone's summit provides sweeping views of the nearby Cascade Mountains and High Deschutes River. The steep lower slopes are largely covered in fields of lava rock, while the summit is surrounded by patches of snow and ice in the winter and lush meadows in the summer. The summit loop is about 2.4 miles (3.9 km) in length with roughly 1,250 feet (380 m) in elevation gain. Towards the end of the loop, you can explore the inside of the cone to get a unique view of the surrounding area. While there, look for wildflowers and a variety of wildlife.
