Amsterdam's Buildings

Amsterdam's buildings are known for their distinctive Dutch architecture and colorful facades. There are numerous historic and notable buildings in Amsterdam, many of them from the 17th century Golden Age. The two major canals, Herengracht and Prinsengracht, are lined with beautiful mansions, many of which are still well-preserved. The main street, Dam Square, is surrounded with royal palaces, the 14th-century Gothic Nieuwe Kerk, and other grand buildings such as the Royal Palace and the former stock exchange. The oldest building in the city is Montelbaan Tower, dating from the 16th century. The Magere Brug features two small, white-painted houses and has become one of the most photographed buildings in the city. Amsterdam is also home to several museums, such as the Rijksmuseum (state museum) and the Anne Frank House, which are also popular tourist destinations.
