Svartifoss Waterfall

Svartifoss Waterfall is a magnificent waterfall located in the Skaftafell area of south-east Iceland. The waterfall is surrounded by tall, dark, hexagonal basalt columns, which makes it a unique sight and one of the most popular waterfalls in Iceland. The amount of water passing through the waterfall varies throughout the year, depending on the rainfall and snowmelt. The pool at the head of the waterfall is deep and black, and reflects the basalt columns that encase it. You can easily access the falls by footpath from the car park in Skaftafell and can explore both north and south sides of the falls by foot. Be sure to bring plenty of water and supplies, as there are no facilities available in the area. The scenery surrounding the falls is spectacular, with fields of grass dotted with wildflowers and deep green pine trees.
