Ehrenbreitstein

Ehrenbreitstein is a fortress situated on the heights overlooking the city of Koblenz in Germany. It was built between 1817 and 1828, with an aim to protect the Rhine from possible invasions. The fortress was passed from the French to the Prussian and then to the German armies, and is now a protected historical monument. It offers impressive sights of the Rhine Valley, including numerous castles, churches and vineyards. The Ehrenbreitstein fortress today is used as an event venue, such as for pop concerts, theater performances, and regular cultural and historic programs. It is also a site of the Museum of Koblenz and the Koblenz museum of the Prussian army, as well as the restaurant Corka-Chello. Ehrenbreitstein has been available for tourism since 1964, where modern infrastructure has been built as an accompaniment to the historical buildings. Visitors can take tours of the fortress and its gates, and can take in the wonderful views it offers of the cityscape from its top.
