
Uspenskiy Kafedral'nyy Sobor, in the city of Kolomna, Russia is a beautiful historical cathedral located on the steep banks of the Moskva River. Built in the 16th century, this stone building is the most notable sight of the town and one of the oldest surviving Russian churches. It has remarkable decorative elements, including a polished ceiling made of gilded oil paintings, gold chandeliers, and a quartet of domes with striking blue and white stripes. The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos, the Russian Orthodox celebration of the Assumption of Mary. Inside, visitors can view 15th century icons and a gilded throne that belonged to the Tsarina Elizabeth in the mid-1700s.
