Paço das Escolas, Coimbra is a 16th-century palace and one of the most beautiful places in the city. It was originally built by the Archbishop of Coimbra, who thought of it as a shelter for the poor and homeless and a place of education and culture. Its interior contains classrooms, offices and libraries, and its exterior has a large fountain, flanked by stone pillars, and a terrace. Its highlight is the lovely baroque garden, where visitors can appreciate the colorful and fragrant flowers. There is also a terrace offering some of the best views of the city. Paço das Escolas Coimbra is open to the public, free of charge, and it is a fascinating place to explore.
